Hello again !
I hope you're having a great week so far. I can't believe it's August already. The day that shelter in place orders were announced for my county feels like yesterday, even though it was almost 5 months ago. Or, was it 5? It seems I have no recollection of time anymore and everything is just meshing together. Do you feel the same way? Anyways, enough of my complaining and rambling.
I always enjoy sitting down and writing a more casual and personal post, so I thought it would be fun to recap my weekend in a post for you. Usually our weekends during quarantine are just like every other day, but every now and again we'll go out to grab some takeout, go to a new park/walk around somewhere, or even go to the beach. This weekend we happened to do some more "eventful" things if you will, so I thought it would be a good time to write out a post. Maybe I'll write these posts after every weekend...I haven't decided yet. Every time we go out to do something "normal" (i.e. walk around outdoors, go to the beach, etc.) I feel so grateful to be able to do so. If you're itching to go out or spend some time with friends/family (& you're able to), I hope this weekend recap of mine provides some ideas for you to do so in a safe way. <3
Friday
Friday honestly feels like the weekend to me, so I'm including it because why not lol. I cannot for the life of me remember what I did in the afternoon - probably a combination of scrolling though Pinterest, reading, & snacking - but I did change my bed sheets so that's something. I had made a loaf of zucchini banana bread and coconut jello on Thursday so I packaged some up and delivered it to my aunts. My family and me are all addicted to the zucchini banana bread ever since I made it lol. Who knew it would be such a success. I used this recipe by Well Plated and though grating two whole zucchinis + squeezing out all of their water & moisture was a bit tedious, it was well worth it! Since we already drove out to my aunts' house, we decided to get takeout nearby from our favorite Japanese curry restaurant. That meal was the highlight of my day for sure ;).
Saturday
To be honest, I didn't do much of anything today, once again lol. Just like every other day, I had every intention of being super productive..and then it all just went out the window. I've been selling gently used items on Facebook Marketplace and Poshmark recently, so I thought I'd list my old iPhone on Marketplace today. But, I realized I never cleared out all of my photos so I had to back it up to our PC and by the time we - actually mainly just my dad lol - finally figured it out, it took hours to upload. So I guess I'll list it later this week. Anyways, not that listing an item to sell takes a whole day but I was counting on that to be the one productive thing I'd do lol. Lots of Pinterest scrolling and snacking happened today, and I'm honestly not gonna let myself feel bad about it!
Oddly enough, I've missed packing my school lunches. Since I was already making sandwiches for lunch, I decided to serve them on these bento trays. I guess there's just something about cute containers, nice colors, divided sections, and food that makes me want to keep reaching for bento box containers/trays vs. regular plates lol. I don't have a picture of dinner but it was made by my sister. I ended the night watching a couple episodes of Brooklyn 99. Not too shabby of a Saturday if you're asking me ;).
Sunday
Sunday morning wasn't super eventful, but we did drive out to SF after lunch. Our first stop was Pineapple King Bakery. I'm thinking of doing a separate post about these buns because I'm officially obsessed with them! Plus, that way I can go more in-depth. But for now, you can see my Instagram post with more photos/description. If you've never tried this twist on the classic pineapple bun, think cream puff (or better yet a Papa Beard's cream puff) and a pineapple bun combined. Again, hopefully I'll write a more in-depth post about this bakery and their buns because I loved it and cannot stop thinking about them lol.
8 pineapple buns and 2 bbq pork buns later, we were off to Golden Gate park to walk around. And don't worry, some of those buns were for our aunts to pick up later lol. It had been awhile since I went to Golden Gate park, plus it is of course really big so it was nice to walk around and explore different parts that I had forgotten. We also went to the rose garden inside.
The last time we drove to SF, we went to Polly Ann's for ice cream, so of course we couldn't leave without it this time! I love that you can't find most of their flavors elsewhere, too. I got a single scoop (but split for two flavors which was an additional $0.25) with black sesame and jasmine tea. Black sesame naturally has a quite dark, sort of earthy flavor, and I think their ice cream was the perfect balance of black sesame flavor and light creaminess. I also love their mango and lychee which my parents shared. My sister opted for a lavender London fog with boba at Wake Cup Coffee. I had a sip and it was really good, but it tasted more like lavender milk tea to me (couldn't really taste the earl grey). We picked up some takeout at Ken Kee afterwards and headed home. I wouldn't say Ken Kee is extraordinary or anything, but it's pretty good Cantonese food with all of the classic dishes you'd expect to find, as well as some good "wok hay". If you know what that means, you're a real one ;).
We ended the day FaceTiming my cousin to wish her a happy birthday. Overall, this weekend was definitely one of the more fun and eventful weekends during quarantine so far! I'm truly grateful that I was able to spend this time with my family and get out of the house for a bit.
I think that's a wrap for today! I suppose these weekend digests are more for me to look back on than anything else. But, I do hope you enjoyed reading along and hope that you feel a little more connected with me. If you've read 'til the end, thank you. Let me know in the comments below what your weekend looked like. <3
P.S. If you're a Bay Area native - or even if you were just here on travel - let me know in the comments if you've been to any of these spots as well! I would love to know what you thought of them.
